Kurti again at "war" with the Americans, DASH: We are against the

The US State Department has stated that it is deeply disappointed by Kurti's decision.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received a slap from the USA. The removal of the Serbian dinar from circulation in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo was seen as a wrong and too hasty move by the United States of America.

In a statement for 'Voice of America' , the US Department of State has stated that it is deeply disappointed by Kurti's decision and that they oppose Kosovo's current plans to continue with the implementation of the decision to limit the import of foreign currencies, including the dinar. Serbian.

" We again call for the implementation of this decision to be postponed immediately until satisfactory procedures are established in accordance with European standards and the population is sufficiently educated on how the transitional period will continue. The decision was announced without adequate preparation or consultation ," says a response from the US State Department.

DASH further stated that they have asked the authorities in Kosovo to explain what urgent problem this hasty decision-making aims to solve, as well as to argue why this decision had to be taken urgently.

" We have not heard any suitable answer. Many citizens of Kosovo now do not know how they will pay their bills or receive their pensions. This action is also inconsistent with Kosovo's commitment to work through the European Union-facilitated Dialogue to address issues affecting the well-being of the Serbian minority community ," states the DASH response.

The State Department also underlined that good governance and good international partnership require time to assess the consequences, listen to perspectives and consult with others for a workable solution.

" The consequence of this and similar unilateral actions limits the possibilities of the United States as Kosovo's advocate in the international arena" , the answer states.

We recall that earlier in the day, the American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, said that the USA opposes the entry into force of the Central Bank's decision to use the euro as the only currency in the country, as he pointed out that this could lead to new tensions in Kosovo.

" We think that this issue really deserves a more careful examination, but also a discussion within the dialogue mediated by the European Union. We are concerned that it will potentially escalate ethnic tensions and prove problematic for the daily life of a number of Kosovo citizens" , said the American ambassador after a meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti.

The European Union also called on Kosovo on Thursday to offer a sufficiently long transitional period for the implementation of the decision of the Central Bank which determines that the euro is the only currency that can be used for payments.

The European Union and diplomats in Pristina agree that the regulation "aims to increase financial transparency, ensure financial stability and fight money laundering and counterfeiting", but have asked for a delay in implementation "until issues are resolved that ensure no one is harmed". .

The regulation has provoked the angry reaction of Belgrade and the political representatives of the Serbs in Kosovo, who estimate that this decision endangers the survival of the Serbian community, but also the concerns of Western diplomats that it could incite new tensions.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić discussed this issue with the ambassadors of major Western countries on Wednesday night, but no details were given about the discussions.
