The director of the so-called "Office for Kosovo" in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, reacted to the statement of the American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, after the latter said that Kosovo is a democratic state, with existing borders.
In a post on Twitter, Petkovic said that "Kosovo's borders belong to Serbia", thus mentioning UN resolution 1244.
While he added that Lista Serbe is an opposition party like all opposition parties, emphasizing that they do not consider it a Serbian political subject, but a party of ethnic Serbs in Kosovo.
"We know well, Ambassador Jeff Hovener, the borders in Kosovo are the borders of Serbia in accordance with the UN Charter and UN Resolution 1244. And the Serbian List is the choice and voice of the Serbian people who defend the national interests of their people in Kosovo, not foreign embassies," Petkovic declared.
Hovenier also spoke about the meeting of the Serbian List with Washington's special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar.
"I saw some comments of the Serbian List after the meeting and I want to emphasize a few things. The first is that the USA considers Kosovo to be independent, and since the declaration of independence in 2008, we have recognized it as a sovereign, independent and democratic state. The work we do with the Serbian List, as a political party of Kosovo, is the work we do with other opposition parties in Kosovo. There should be no question or suggestion about the position of the USA that Kosovo is other than an independent state", said Hovenier.
