The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Jose Manuel Albares, in an interview for the media in Spain, has reiterated that the recognition of the passport for Kosovo does not mean the recognition of independence.
Minister Albares says that with the entry into force of the liberalization of visas for Kosovo, Spain must adapt to other countries, which do not recognize Kosovo's independence.
"Even Spain must adapt like the rest of the countries that do not recognize it. Therefore, we started accepting Kosovar passports. Once again I say that this does not mean recognition of Kosovo or its sovereignty. We are five states of the European Union that do not recognize Kosovo, and we accept the passports of all five ," he said.
During the interview, he stated that Spain will never be an obstacle to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, adding that it will not be an obstacle to the rapprochement between Pristina and the European Union.
Further, the minister adds that they cannot pretend that Kosovo does not exist, as it is a territory within the Western Balkans and also participates in the summits organized by the European Union.
"We can't pretend it doesn't exist. But this does not mean that we recognize its sovereignty ", the minister said among other things to the Spanish media El Periodico De Espana.
