The acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, who is also the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, is insisting that the vote for the election of the Speaker of the Assembly be held in secret.
He said that open voting was attempted six times.
Even though he is insisting on a secret ballot, Kurti does not know if 61 votes will be reached to elect Albulena Haxhiu as president.
"First of all, there is no guarantee. We don't know if we have 61 votes. I don't know that we have them. It is our duty to try to find a solution. We sought a solution with open voting, but it was not found. Let's try a solution with secret voting. I believe that it is a mistake and a waste if we don't try it, because the Constitutional Court, in its 2014 judgment, in points 128, 124, 126, 127, said that everyone must stay in the hall, be present and vote for, against or abstain.
He also said that voting can be open, secret or other ways. So we tried open voting and it didn't work. Let's try secret voting. Why all this resistance to trying secret voting?
"I believe it is a mistake for the ninth legislature that if it has not had success with open voting, it does not try secret voting once. So, Albulena has tried open voting six times. Why not try secret voting once," he said on TV1.
Kurti added that if Haxhiu fails to be elected by secret ballot, then they will propose another candidate.
