However, Mbappe's statements were immediately denied by coach Alvaro Arbeloa, who reacted harshly in the post-match press conference.
" I never told him he's the fourth choice in attack. Maybe he misunderstood me. I decide who plays and, if I don't activate him, it's because of his physical condition ," Arbeloa declared.
The Madrid coach added that the team is currently facing shortages in the offensive department and that he does not understand the way the player interpreted the conversation between them.
The public clash between the pair comes at a difficult time for the Madrid club, after the defeat in "El Clásico" and the declaration of Barcelona as champions.
The atmosphere at the Bernabéu was tense even in the stands. According to reports, security removed two banners against president Florentino Pérez, while the club president himself was seen arguing with fans in the stadium's VIP area.
Although Mbappe contributed with an assist for Jude Bellingham's second goal, his situation at Real Madrid remains unclear. An online petition calling for the Frenchman's departure has reportedly gathered a large number of supporters.
