Disqualified from the Asian Cup, 5 Iranian national football players seek asylum

Five members of Iran's women's national football team have left a training camp in Australia and sought political asylum in the country, according to reports from multiple sources and the office of exiled crown prince Reza Pahlavi.

The players involved are Fatemeh Pasandideh, Zahra Ghanbari, Zahra Sarbali, Atefeh Ramazanzadeh and Mona Hamoudi. According to Reza Pahlavi's office, they are now in a "safe place" under the protection of Australian authorities, after leaving the team's hotel in Gold Coast, Queensland.

This development comes after Iran's elimination from the 2026 Women's Asian Cup, where the team lost to South Korea. Before that match, the players refused to sing the Iranian national anthem, a silent act that was widely interpreted as a protest against the Tehran regime.

This action brought harsh criticism in Iranian state media, where they were called "traitors" and warned of dire consequences if they returned to Iran. As the team bus left the stadium after the match, dozens of Iranian demonstrators in Australia chanted "Let them go!" and "Save our girls!"

It is reported that at least three players were seen making the international help sign by forming a triangle with their fingers, which was widely shared on media and social networks.

The Australian government has come under intense pressure from human rights activists, politicians and public figures to protect the players from being forcibly returned to Iran, where they could face persecution, imprisonment or even death.

In a recent post on his social media, former US President Donald Trump commented on the case, writing: "Australia is making a terrible humanitarian mistake by allowing the Iranian women's national football team to be forced back to Iran, where they will most likely be killed. Don't do it, Mr. Prime Minister, grant them ASYLUM. The US will take them if you don't want them."

The situation is evolving, with continued calls for Australia to grant official asylum to these players to ensure their safety.

The funny thing is that the Australian Prime Minister is Albanian origin. Just the surname shows Albanese. Those kind of bread breakers forget their origin and suffering of their blood. Shame on him. In Manfredonia, a small city in South Italy, in a building used to live 4 Castriota families and when I asked them, are you Albanian, they denied with arrogance, telling me proudly, we are pure Italians. My answer was, you are pure shit. There are so many Albanians around the World in top Universities, Ministries, Governments, Scientific Organisations, etc. And the "beauty" of the facts they are shy and hide like rats in the sewers.
