The Special Court has postponed the preliminary hearing of the case against Erion Veliaj and his co-defendants to February 2.
Present at the session, the mayor insisted on his request to be familiar with the acts of the file.
The court decided to close the trial, considering his and his lawyers' request for time to familiarize themselves with the file and their unwillingness to present their submissions abusive. At a later point, the court overturned its decision.
This came after the court-appointed lawyer for Veliaj, Valtentina Teodorescu, requested authorization to meet with Veliaj in custody and then to present her written submissions.
The court accepted her request and adjourned the hearing.
The Court of Appeals also rejected Teodorescu's request to meet with Veliaj in Durrës prison, where he has been held in pre-trial detention facilities since February of last year.
