Regarding developments in the Middle East and the Gulf region, Xi called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.
Chinese President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Xi Jinping stated that China attaches great importance to developing relations with Saudi Arabia, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. He stressed that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and considered this an opportunity to deepen strategic trust, expand practical cooperation and enhance exchanges at all levels. According to him, this relationship can serve as a model for cooperation between China and Arab countries.
Regarding developments in the Middle East and the Gulf region, Xi called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire. He stressed that China supports the resolution of disputes through political and diplomatic means and called for maintaining the normal functioning of the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a common regional and international interest. China, he added, supports countries in the region in building a stable environment of cooperation, development and security.
For his part, Mohammed bin Salman described relations with China as strategic and essential for Saudi Arabia. He stated that the current tensions in the Middle East negatively affect the security of the Gulf countries, as well as global energy supplies and the world economy. Saudi Arabia, according to him, supports the resolution of disputes through dialogue and aims to avoid further escalation of the situation.
The Crown Prince also stressed that China plays an important role as a major power with a balanced and constructive stance in the region. He expressed Saudi Arabia's readiness to strengthen coordination with China, with the aim of maintaining the ceasefire, ensuring navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz, and advancing efforts for long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
