Medieval astrologer Nostradamus and Balkan seer Baba Vanga predicted that 2025 would be a year of disasters and wars, and their words are now being scrutinized to see if they ring true.
To quote modern philosopher Liam Gallagher, 2025 has been "a bit of a strange and subverted year" with wars, famine, climate crisis and the spiral of social cohesion that threatens to destroy Western civilization as we know it.
But how much of this was predicted by Nostradamus and Baba Vanga, who have a world-wide reputation?
The predictions of Nostradamus and Baba Vanga are constantly held under scrutiny when major world events seem to match their premonitions.
French astrologer Nostradamus, whose real name is Michel de Nostredame, recorded his prophecies in the 1555 text, Les Prophéties, and is said to have predicted the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
And the blind Bulgarian mystic, Baba Vanga, died in 1996, but her prophecies are said to have included major global events such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks and even Brexit.
The Daily Star has published their predictions for the year 2025.
The cruel wars of Europe
Michel de Nostredame made a total of 942 predictions based on the stars, and according to those who have deciphered his words, he strangely predicted a year 2025 filled with disasters and conflicts.
He warned that "those from the lands of Europe" would be involved in "cruel wars" and indicated that Britain could be drawn into them. So far, the United Kingdom has not been directly involved in any way.
But the UK has played a key role in trying to facilitate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine and in trying to keep US President Donald Trump on the sidelines after his acrimonious row with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
Nostradamus is also said to have predicted: "the ancient plague will be worse than enemies." Today we reported how millions of Britons face the journey of miles to get vaccines against the superflu that is paralyzing the nation.
Demand is surging as the H3N2 strain hospitalises 3,000 people a day and pharmacy stocks are running low. Boffins have warned there is still no "peak on the horizon" amid fears this could be the worst flu season on record.
England's National Health Service says hospital admissions have increased by more than half in a week.
Nostradamus wrote: "During a long war, the whole army was exhausted, so they did not find money for the soldiers; instead of gold or silver, they would come to cut leather, Gallic bronze and the sign of the crescent moon."
Many interpreted this as a reference to the bloody conflict in Ukraine, which began in 2022 when “Vlad the Mad”’s troops invaded the neighboring nation. But while both countries have seen their resources depleted, it still doesn’t seem to be over, despite Trump’s peace plan proposals.
Nostradamus predicted that Brazil would face volcanic eruptions and deadly floods, writing: "the garden of the world near the new city, on the road of the empty mountains will be immersed in a bathtub, forced to drink water poisoned by sulfur."
While some indicators of Amazon degradation have improved slightly this year, for example, some sources report that deforestation and fires have decreased, the picture is mixed, with illegal mining and droughts having a continuing negative effect.
Blind seer Baba Vanga , who accurately predicted her own death six years before her death, predicted an encounter with aliens and the mastery of telepathy by 2025.
While extraterrestrials have yet to make confirmed contact with us, the mysterious interstellar visitor 3I/Atlas is moving rapidly toward Earth and will certainly reach its closest point to us next week.
And one space expert fears it could be an alien ship that could pose a threat to humanity. Although Uri Geller insists they come in peace to save us from nuclear war.
Before she died in 1996, the fortune teller predicted that in 2025 there would be earthquakes that would destroy the world.
There have been six deadly earthquakes this year, including a major 7.7-magnitude quake in Myanmar that killed at least 5,456 people, causing damage in neighboring countries in May.
A magnitude 6 earthquake in Afghanistan killed more than 2,000 people in August, while about 400 people died in Tibet when a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Tibet.
Elsewhere, a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Russia, the strongest recorded in 14 years.
