The United States may be developing contacts with a key figure in Iranian politics to advance efforts to reduce tensions. According to Israeli media outlet Ynet, Washington is considering the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf, as one of the “respected” representatives for dialogue.
The report notes that it is not clear whether there are direct contacts between the parties, but suggests that Ghalibaf is seen as a potential intermediary figure in the absence of clear leadership in Iran.
At the same time, Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported, citing an Israeli official, that several intermediary countries – Egypt, Turkey and Pakistan – are working to organize a meeting between Iran and the United States in Islamabad.
According to this source, the meeting could take place as early as this week and would include high-level representatives from both sides. Ghalibaf and other officials are expected to participate on the Iranian side, while White House envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and Vice President JD Vance are mentioned on the American side.
