President Bajram Begaj congratulated this Monday, September 29, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, on her victory in the parliamentary elections.
"Sincere congratulations to the President of Moldova Maia Sandu for her victory in the parliamentary elections. This is proof of the citizens' trust in democracy and in European integration as a strategic priority. Albania stands by Moldova on its journey towards the European Union," the head of state wrote in a post on X.
The pro-European Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), led by President Maia Sandu, emerged victorious in the parliamentary elections held on Sunday, with 50.03% of the vote, maintaining the course of integration towards the European Union.
The elections took place in a tense political climate, amid Russia's declared efforts to influence the outcome and the EU's open support for pro-Western forces.
Moldova, a small but strategically important country bordering Ukraine, is at a pivotal moment. With a large part of the population still nostalgic for the Soviet period and a youth seeking change and integration into the West, the country is divided between two poles: East and West, Moscow and Brussels.
