Journalists have put the leader of the DP, Sali Berisha, against the wall after the closing of the National Assembly. When asked about the democrat Ervin Salianji, whom he described as a political prisoner when he was arrested, Berisha, although embarrassed, trembled. The leader of the DP said that Salianji was not in prison during the campaign, but somewhere else. He even forgot that he went to prison to visit him.
Berisha also commented for the first time on the meeting that former MP Ervin Salianji held the day before in Tirana with supporters and sympathizers of the right.
Berisha denied that active members or supporters of the Democratic Party had participated in the event organized by Salianji.
"No democrat was there. Let's tell you the truth. Those who were there and those who left have long been separated from the DP, or have never been in the DP. No democrat was absolutely following the DP," Berisha declared.
The opposition leader also commented on the participation of well-known figures of the Democrats in the Salijanj meeting, warning that those who choose to support the former MP cannot simultaneously be part of the Democratic Party structures.
"Whoever follows Salianji settles scores with the DP. These are not criticisms. They have concrete actions against the Democratic Party," Berisha said.
Among other things, Berisha declared that the political force he leads has entered the final phase of the renewal process, with the aim of restoring free voting and ensuring the victory of the opposition.
Berisha praised the debates and discussions held during the Assembly, emphasizing that the general atmosphere reflected the spirit of change and reform of the Democratic Party.
"This Assembly, with the debate and the approved documents, sets as its goal the renewal of the Democratic Party in its last mile, as a fundamental condition to achieve the objective of restoring free voting to Albanians and the victory of the opposition," said Berisha.
He said that the potential of the DP is great and that the party leaders will work to concretize the determinations and promises approved in the Assembly.
Berisha described the National Assembly as one of the party's most important events in recent years, praising the normal development of the process and participation in the discussions.
Referring to the elections for the National Council, he emphasized that regardless of the voting result, all candidates remain important values for the Democratic Party.
The Democratic leader also guaranteed full transparency in the vote counting process, underlining that any candidate who has doubts about the result will have the right to verify their votes.
"With Jonathan Panos' discussion, the series of excellent discussions in this Assembly was concluded, which with the debate, with the documents, defines as its goal the renewal of the Democratic Party in its last kilometer, as a fundamental condition to achieve its objective, the return of the free vote to Albanians and the victory of the opposition. The potential is great, the will is iron, therefore I pledge to the Democrats and all the opposition that with great dedication we will do everything to turn into action, to concretize the determinations and promises of this Assembly so that the Democratic Party can move forward determinedly and fulfill its mission.
I followed the discussions with great interest, I am encouraged by them, the opinions that were expressed. So, if you will read the illegible, what the atmosphere of the hall had, it was the renewal and change in the defined directions of the Democratic Party. So I thank you for following the proceedings of this Assembly. I would call it an extremely important Assembly in many aspects and the truth is that with a normal development, not to say perfect. Now let's wait for the results of the votes, which if I am not mistaken will begin at 8 pm. Here I want to guarantee, of course, that when there are more than two candidacies for one seat, one wins, the other does not win, but I emphasize one thing: that in my assessment they have been the most dignified candidacies that have ever been presented. First. Second, regardless of whether they receive votes or not, each of them remains a valuable asset of the Democratic Party. Thirdly, anyone who has the slightest doubt will have the right to count their votes. This is the maximum transparency we can achieve," Berisha said.
