From 2024 reports to waste, what is expected to be discussed in the Assembly

Deputies are meeting today in plenary session, where the agenda is expected to review the activities of several institutions for 2024.

But there will also be discussions about the Special Parliamentary Commissions, the one for Electoral Reform and the one for Territorial Reform, while a decision is expected to be made on their establishment.

A day ago, at the Conference of Chairmen there were discussions regarding the Electoral Commission. The Socialist Party (SP) is seeking a formula where the two major parties each have a co-chair, the Socialist Party (SP) has 8 members and the other 8 opposition parties. The head of the Socialist Party's Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, said that the other parliamentary parties should also be part of the commission.

This would also include Tom Doshi's party, and for the DP this disrupts the equality in the commission because the PSD has historically voted for the socialists. Even for the Territorial, the Democrats are seeking a tie.

Discussions are also expected on the draft law on integrated waste management and the draft decision on "On the establishment of the Special Parliamentary Committee for the Review and Selection of Candidacies of the Regulatory Commission of the Central Election Commission".

Regarding the reports of several institutions, it is foreseen to report on the activities of the Ombudsman for 2024, the Deposit Insurance Agency, the Institute for Studies on the Crimes and Consequences of Communism in Albania, the Authority for Information on Documents of the Former State Security, and the report of the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination.

Meanwhile, at 09:30, the Council for Regulation, Mandates and Immunity will also meet to review the CEC's decision to grant the mandate to MPs Besnik Brahim and Shkurt Lasku of the PSD. The mandate was given to Brahim and Lasku as the two most voted after Tom Doshi and Sabina Jorgo gave up their mandate.
