"Edi Rama is internationally isolated and in conflict with justice. Our resistance will not stop until he leaves. Technical government and free elections, our duty is to overthrow him. Sunday, 6:00 PM on the boulevard . "
This is the message that has been distributed by the DP's leadership structures, while citizens are invited to join the March 22 protest on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard.
It seems that for the next protest, Sali Berisha's Democrats and their allies will change their strategy, in what is considered the unstoppable opposition action to overthrow the Rama Government. Reports indicate that the protesters' plan will not include any more movement on the streets of Tirana, as happened in previous protests, when protesters moved from the Prime Minister's Office towards the Parliament, or as happened in the last protest, when a group of opposition supporters surrounded the main axes, in the form of civil disobedience.
The protesters will be grouped according to the areas where they live, with MPs or leaders of structures standing next to them, while many of them will gather as usual at the DP headquarters, from where most of the leaders of this party are expected to depart, towards the "Martyrs of the Nation" boulevard.
Sources say that after continuous requests from EPP representatives, who did not support the Molotov cocktail incidents, it seems that the March 22 protest will try to avoid the use of such means. Under these conditions, it seems that the DP and its allies will aim for a peaceful, but extended protest, with a high turnout. The protest is expected to start at 18:00 and despite the fact that there is no set time for when it can end, it is expected to close around 22:00, if there is no intervention by the Police to disperse the protesters.
Sources say that if there are provocations towards the crowd, then there could be a change in the scenario of the protest, creating chaos in the city, with roadblocks. Under these conditions, the situation could get out of control and scenes of clashes between the Police and protesters could be repeated again.
Despite the fact that the democratic leader, Sali Berisha, has not given up his harsh language, talking about an uprising, it seems that in practice, in the protest of March 22, there will be an attempt to minimize incidents as much as possible, especially on the part of the opposition. In these conditions, it seems that there will be an attempt to react to the provocations, as has been claimed before, that were made to the crowd by the Police.
The latest opposition protest, where incidents with Molotov cocktails took place at the former villa of the dictator, Enver Hoxha, was followed by a strong reaction from some of the diplomats accredited in Tirana, but also from officials of the EPP, the largest political group in the European Parliament, which is very supportive of the democrats in the international arena, but which on the other hand does not support acts of violence.
And between the international support that is considered quite important for Albanian politics and the incidents, perhaps in the March 22 protest, the Democrats have decided to change strategy.
"March 22 is a day of inspiration for Albanians, the day when the most brutal dictatorship was de-facto overthrown. March 22 is the day when Albanians are invited to the greatest peaceful uprising that Tirana and Albania have known ," Berisha declared a few days ago, while inviting Albanians to join the rally.
Despite the fact that this day coincides with an official holiday for the Bektashi community, this date symbolically also marks the DP's first victory in the parliamentary elections, those of 1992.
Reports indicate that in recent meetings that Democratic leader Berisha has had with EPP officials, as well as in contacts that Democrats have had in Berlin with members of the Bundestag, they have been asked not to cause incidents during the protests, as this gives the Government arguments and justifications to delegitimize the causes that are being raised.
But not only that, in the international arena this would also damage the image of the opposition. In these conditions, it seems that Berisha and his confidants have decided to change the style of the protest, aiming for high participation and its duration.
Sources say that if everything goes without incident, the aim will be to call a large protest within 1 month where citizens will attempt to surround the Prime Minister's Office on all sides, a format that has not been applied by the opposition in Albania so far. /Pamphlet/
