The defense of Rexhep Selimi has asked the first witness without protective measures in the trial against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in The Hague, Agim Idrizi, regarding his testimony about the beating of him and his family members by Enver Axhami. Idrizi has accused Axham of beating his relatives on behalf of the KLA. However, he told about the problems they had with the Axhami family since before the war, then problems about a piece of land and accusations and counter-accusations between these two families.
He admitted that he unknowingly took Axham's wood in the forest, until he mentioned the cows stolen from the Axham family throughout Kaçanik.
The witness Idrizi was asked by the defense of Rexhep Selim, Geoffrey Roberts, regarding the statement given to the UNMIK personnel in 2001, regarding the beating that was done to him because of a land sold in 1999 in Llanisht of Kaçanik. .
According to him, Qazim Idrizi sold the land to Bajram Bruti, but it was Enver Ajhami who was looking for this land. The latter went to the house of Qazim Idrizi and threw the money in the house even though the legal owner was Bajram Bruti. However, in the questions of the defense, he has told about many problems that his family had with the Axhami family, even before the war.
"You told us that Qazim Idrizi was your neighbor, our house is in front of us, very close to it. We are of the same blood, the Axhami family put pressure on them... Is it right to say how Enver Axhami organized your kidnapping, attack and arrest. Yes. Is it correct that you have numerous other problems with the Ajhami family. Enver Axhami says that I am Sali Bruti's spy. I have never spoken to Sali Bruti, he was a commander in Kaçanik at that time, he was first accused of stealing wood and is it correct that you accused him of stealing your cow. All of Kaçanik know that Sylë Axham and his brother Isen Axham, they stole the cows in Kaçanik, they also stole a cow from me and I never reported it to the militia. Is it right to say that Enver Axham's cousin have been attacking your brother for a long period of time, yes. Is it right to say that even before the war started, he wanted to kidnap you and you yourself told the investigators that. yes", Idrizi.
The witness has confirmed that during the court proceedings in the Basic Court in Pristina, he said that for two years they had problems with the land.
"Vehbi Koka has caused us all these troubles because they could not do these things. He worked with the Serbian police and put my name in there, now I can't get rid of it, they all swear, half swear... can we say that the problem you had with Enver Axham is because he spread lies about you in Kaçanik and know that Arkan never existed. Even Sami Axhami when he said that Agimi beat me with the police, this is a lie because it is not true and what Agimi said was a policeman is not true, a forest guard, it is not true... he also fired KLA, the bad man, he would have to go out and kill me before the war, not with the army to go out and take the hack" , he said.
All the leaders of the KLA were present in the courtroom, with the exception of Jakup Krasniqi.
The trial against Thaçi and the others started on April 3 with the opening statements where they all pleaded not guilty to the charges of alleged war crimes.
Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi have been in the detention center in The Hague since November 2020.
