This Tuesday will begin the last chapter of one of the biggest rivalries that exists in European football. Los Blancos and the Bavarians have experienced some of the most epic battles in the competition.

A rivalry that became known as the European classic. But the history of this rivalry goes beyond the data, it is based, above all, on the duels played by many of the best players in history, many of them in the ranks of a Bayern in which they became known as "ogres" ( in Spanish) or "black beasts" of Madrid.

Torpedo Myler and a madman – The first chapter of this story took place in the 1975-1976 season, when the white team met possibly the best Bayern in history in the semi-finals of the Champions Cup as it was then called the Champions League. Bayern had names that would make any team tremble: Beckenbauer, Rumenige, Hnes, Maier and one of the most glorious strikers in history, Gerd "Torpedo" Müller. Fate was decided in Munich after the first match at the "Bernabéu", which was a worldwide scandal.

A Madrid fan jumped onto the pitch to attack referee Linemajer and Müller himself. In an "Olympiastadion" "heated" by the German press and in which the Germans Netzer and Breitner, at that time in Madrid, were treated almost as traitors to their country, Müller's two goals defeated Madrid (2-0).

The "Horns" of Augenthaler - It took more than a decade of waiting to experience, another crossover between the two clubs, again in the semi-finals in the 1986-1987 season. Bayern won the first leg 4-1 in a duel where Madrid finished with nine men. Juanito's dismissal in the 32nd minute was key. The genius from Marbella lost his temper and, perhaps maddened by the German's rough play, stomped on Mateus when he was on the ground.

"My animal instinct has defeated me", he later declared apologetically. In the return match, "Bernabéu" believes in a reversal, especially after the red exit of Augentaler, who hit Hugo Sánchez. "He was insulting me non-stop... He drove me crazy!", the German center back explained later on "AS".

His exit from the field, cursing the entire stadium, ended up lighting up the stands. "That match was like a bullfight. The gesture was a product of tension" he would analyze later. The truth is that Madrid could only win 1-0, because the goalkeeper of Bayern, the Belgian Pfaf, waited for everything.

The red of Romania... and a discarded trophy - It was a time of great rivalry. Even friendly matches were remembered as all-out battles. And alas, who did not receive it that way.

In a pre-season friendly in 1980, Bayern beat Madrid 9-1! Vujadin Boshkov, the coach of Real Madrid, came out after the meeting embarrassed with a historical phrase: "I'd rather lose one game with nine goals than nine games with one goal each."

The rivalry also reached the "Bernabeu Trophy". Rumenige was sent off for making obscene gestures towards the crowd in the 44th minute and the chaos that ensued was such that the referee ended up sending off the German team's translator as well. Many years later, in 2004, "AS" discovered that the "Bernabéu Trophy", the first in history, won by chance the year before by Bayern itself, was found thrown down the stairs in the headquarters of the Bavarian club, far from the cups of others. The German club changed its approach and today the trophy is in its privileged place in the trophy case of the German club.

A "Beast" Named Kahn – The rivalry went from a sporadic event to an almost annual experience. And so much friction… spoiled the relationship between the Bavarian players and the Madrid fans. Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn and his strong character made him one of the targets of the white public. The goalkeeper never shied away from the confrontation.

Salihamidzic, Pizarro and "Palaçot" - Those matches were very heated by the statements before them. In the 2000-2001 season, Madrid had to surrender, losing both of their semi-final matches (0-1 and 2-1). But they hit back with an upset in the quarter-finals of the 2001-2002 season (losing 2-1 and winning 2-0), despite Salihamidzic's assurances that Madrid would "do it in their panties" or the opinion of Kahn, who told Realin: "Many ads, but they don't play football."

The victory in the second round of the 2003-2004 season (1-1 and 1-0) was preceded by another encouraging statement. "Let's give those clowns a high five," said the Peruvian Pizarro, who couldn't keep his promise...

"Fuck off" by Van Bomel - Real Madrid turned history, but their duels with Bayern were still tense. In the round of 1/8 finals in the 2006-2007 season, both teams would meet again and the qualification went to the Bavarians, where there were also problems.

In the first match, Real led up to 3-1 in "Bernabéu" in the last minutes. But Van Bomel's goal (88′) reduced the gap for Bayern and ignited the stands. The Dutchman, who came from Barça, scored the goal and went directly to the stand, to which he dedicated two "fuck off" gestures, causing UEFA to open proceedings against him. Later he apologized for the gesture./Panorama Sport
