The Special Appeal hearing for Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj and the four other businessmen against whom the Criminal Court of Kosovo has imposed security measures has been ongoing for more than 4 hours.
So far, the mayor's lawyers, Ermir Beta and Artur Selmani, have completed their defense. Veliaj's lawyers have requested the abolition of the prison sentence or a milder security measure, arguing that it cannot destroy evidence.
Businessman Elman Abule is also present at the hearing this Tuesday, while his lawyer Romina Zano finished her defense before the Court and requested a lighter measure.
Currently, the defense of businessman Shkëlqim Fusha is continuing, along with the lawyers of Gentian Sula and Meriman Palushi, as the businessmen themselves have not appeared.
At the conclusion of the defense, the Special Prosecution Office will give its position regarding the requests of the lawyers who have appealed the measure.
This Tuesday's session is expected to last several hours, after which Judge Engert Pëllumbi will retire to the consulting room to announce the decision, whether to uphold the February 12 decision of the GJKKO or to change the first instance decision.
