Former President Bamir Topi has stated that Prime Minister Edi Rama has everything under control. Topi commented on the dismissal of Erion Veliaj from the post of mayor of Tirana, saying: " As for the political aspect, I see that there is a cruel treatment towards Erion Veliaj. Everything is done here for political interests ."
Among other things, Topi declared that "today the opposition is speechless, as its leader is a co-author of the 2008 constitutional amendments."
" These changes also include the election of the President with 71 votes. This is what happens when the President is appointed, he does not have the power to object, " said Topi.
When asked whether the opposition should get involved in these elections, the former President replied: " I don't see the opposition addressing what is happening with the decree in a strong political debate. We gave weight not to the legal side of the issue, but to the political side. It seems to me that Rama has the right to do everything, while we have a spectator opposition. "
According to him, "the responsibility for participating in the elections lies with a party that has over 50 members of Parliament, who receive large salaries, who have privileges behind them, and I don't believe I should tell them what to do."
" The problem is with people, who need to understand that when there is uncertainty about politics, they need to reflect, to orient themselves differently. You can't always be oriented to one point ," Bamir Topi further emphasized.
